The launch of the MEASAT-3d satellite was a key event for MEASAT- Malaysia’s sole licensed commercial satellite operator, and for Malaysia’s telecommunications sector, which would strengthen internet coverage across Malaysia as well as offer new capacity for MEASAT to meet customer needs. The integrated campaign used a holistic approach via media relations, social media communications and on-ground outreach to generate buzz on the satellite and technology advancements that come with it to support and achieve national goals.
Through several media engagements, the narrative began with a multi-pronged strategy in March 2022 with an announcement of MEASAT’s game-changing satellite, MEASAT-3d, set to uplift more Malaysians living in remote areas into the digital age. Media briefing sessions were organised to relay the objectives of launching the satellite and its impact for Malaysia. The journey to the successful launch was witnessed by selected media invited to the European Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana while other members of the media along with VIPs watched a live broadcast viewing session at the World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur. Hype was sustained through organic collaborative post-launch stories with the media which helped support our objective of humanising the space industry. MEASAT began venturing extensively into social media for the launch of MEASAT-3d, in June 2022. MEASAT’s social media platforms were revived with interactive content which ultimately garnered traction with the public. The collaborationwith Apadilangit to run the CanSat competition for Malaysian students inspired the younger generation to explore the potential of advanced satellites and contribute to the technological and social development of Malaysia.
